Miltoast 밀토스트- The best Steamed Bread I’ve ever had

I have been an avid fan of watching Korean (American) Youtuber like Joan Kim, RilaCoco etc etc. I have noticed that whenever Joan’s friend visits her in Seoul she would bring them on her ‘Joanday Exclusive Seoul Tour’ and one of the food spot that should would bring all of them to was Miltoast 밀토스트.

I remembered watching a few of their vlogs and how much they loved Miltoast and they would always get the Steamed Bread Basket and  French Toast (that is actually what they only sell + drinks). I took note of the store name and address in my Google Doc of places to visit in Seoul. I booked my 3rd visit to Seoul and this time with my close girl-friend, & i made sure that we visits Miltoast. The first stop we went after we landed (a cheeky Shake Shack stop for Breakfast) and settled into our Airbnb was…. Miltoast!!

Luckily for us, the cafe was located just a metro stop away from our Airbnb. It was easy to navigate (with the help of Google Maps obviously). The queue was quite short mainly because we were there after 3PM. We waited in line for almost an hour. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!!

My friend and I order 1 item from each categories. She choose the French Toast w/ Red Bean paste, Butter and Black Sesame Butter while I choose the Steamed Plain & Corn Bread.

Photo taken with Focos

The weather was quite chilly but I still got an iced White Cold Brew while my friend got the hot Peanut Butter & Vanilla Milk.

Just looking at the photo makes me drool..

Everything was perfect. If you order exactly what I got, defo try the plain Steamed Bread with the Black Sesame butter from the French Toast!! How I wish I could bring a bag of the Steamed bread and a block of Sesame Butter home!! It is definitely not the cheapest meal you’ll get in Seoul, so expect a damage of 20-30 bucks per person (depending on what you get). BUT IT WAS SO WORTH IT that we even went back for the second time before flying home. And the queue that day was twice the wait on our first visit.

I ordered the same Steamed Bread Combo while my friend tried the French Toast ala mode (w/ a scoop of vanilla ice-cream) & we each got an iced milk.

There was nothing planned for the day so we decided to go to Gwangjang Market for have breakfast! There were soooo many stalls selling food and household products. We went there mainly for food! There were too many stalls to choose from so we stopped by an ahjumah’s kimbap stall which has lots of posters of tevee shows (seems popular).

IMG_2898

There were only a few food items to choose from but the stars of the stall were their Mayak Kimbap (Drug kimbap).

DSC_5514

We ordered a serving of the mayak kimbap and also a few sticks of oden. We ended up ordering another serving! It really lives up to its nickname!

DSC_5515

None of us wanted toppoki in the morning but the kind ahjumah gave us a serving of toppoki as service (freebie) 😀
IMG_2901

Gwangjang Market is famous for Bindaettok which is ground mung beans pancake with ground pork. It was sooooooo  맛있어요. It was hot, crispy, savoury, garlicky & slightly fluffy..!!

IMG_2905

My sister and I decided to stay a while more while the rest of the group went to a nearby cafe to get some caffeine! We stumble upon this store that sells red bean pancake thingy. It was featured on a Korean Variety show and there was quite a long queue so as a typical SG’rean, we went and queue for it. Bought two to share among the group. It was nice and hot and chewy but it was salty? We expected it to be sweet red bean mochi pancake thingy. Didn’t like the filling but the mochi skin was delicous!
DSC_5542

I ordered a hot drink and it came with Lee Min Ho’s face! Rested and went to the restroom and off we go again!

IMG_2917These triangle kimbap from the 7-eleven were really good! Only if they weren’t freezing cold. We walked around Insadong while searching for Miss Lee cafe.

IMG_2926

At the end of the road we found Miss Lee cafe!

DSC_5567

Ordered two Dosirak (lunch box) and a mixed fruit bingsu. The dosirak was so deceiving! It looked simple and not very impressive but oh boy!!! It was sooooooooo good! All the flavours exploded in my mouth with every bite! We regretted for only ordering two to share among 6 of us!
DSC_5572The bingsu was nice but nothing special about the taste.

DSC_5585We went back to our favourite place for shopping and we stopped by the tornado potato stall to get one of this!

DSC_5588

Since it was dinner time we went to the Myeongdong gyoja place. We ordered almost everything off the menu. A serving of mandu (gyoja)

DSC_5589

The kalguksu was very good! Flavourful and the handmade noodles were very chewy!

DSC_5592

The spicy noodle was the spiciest one I’ve had while I was in Korea. & the kimchi they had was sooooo garlicky and spicy! The spiciest kimchi ever!

DSC_5403 It’s Everland Day! Total traveling time from Seoul to Everland took slightly less than 2 hours. It was a long ride to the theme park! IMG_2829 DSC_5415 There wasn’t a lot of interesting rides & attraction so we headed for lunch instead! DSC_5451 It was a self-service place like the ikea restaurant. Different restaurant had different theme & the one we went was a Germany themed one. They had sausage, fried pork cutlet to Korean fried rice. My sister had the pork cutlet with udon set. IMG_2854 I had the Kimchi fried rice with grilled chicken. The salad in Korea always comes with a fruity dressing. I’ve had green apple, strawberry & this time, pineapple salad dressing. It sound and taste weird but after a few bites you will get addicted to it! DSC_5412 There wasn’t much at all & the only attraction we were interested in was the Animal Safari! IMG_2866 It was a really fun & exciting experience! You get to come close to close with the animals while ride in the safari bus! The bears were all so cute & really really smart! DSC_5492 We decided to leave Everland & headed back to Seoul. We were hungry & cold so we went to the food court at the Lotte Mart @ Seoul Station. We had to order first at the entrance of the food court and after payment, you will be issued a ticket number & your number will be flashed on the TV screen & you will have to head to the respective counter to collect your food. Hot stone Bibimbbap for me & sis!

DSC_5495

Two other sissy had the bento set while my brother-in-law had the Shrimp fried rice.

We went crazy in Lotte mart after dinner and bought many snacks and gift for friends & colleagues.

Everyone was tried and resting in the hotel while my third sissy & I went for supper!

IMG_2890Order the same things again! Shaved ice for supper in negative degrees weather? Why not?!

We ended the night with my favourite Hot cheese mochi bar! (I’m salivating while looking at the picture)

We started our day with a light but filling breakfast after a heavy dinner last night. Heard many things about Migabon and their abalone porridge & we’ve decided to have our breakfast there.

We ordered a bowl of porridge each and among us, we order abalone, beef & mushroom and king crab porridge. With the porridge came along a few side dishes including fresh and preserved vegetable & marinated raw squid which went really really well with the porridge!

IMG_2764

The porridge came pipping hot, perfect for the wintery weather.

After breakfast we took the metro to Ewha Womans University station for shopping. Once we exited the station, we saw a couple of people holding onto cups of fried chicken with tatter tots in spicy sauce & after a few steps we saw the roadside stall selling them.

IMG_2772

With a group of six, we decided to ordered the box sized of fried chicken, tatter tots & rice cake goodness. The lady kindly wrapped them with aluminium foil for us to take away. We found a spot to indulge into the fried chicken. The freshly deep fried chicken went cold in just a few minutes but nevertheless, it was still really good!

DSC_5339

We also stopped for some spicy chicken & leek skewers with cheese.

DSC_5337

It’s time for some sight seeing & shopping! We went into the woman university and took some pictures with the beautiful building.

DSC_5353Such a beautiful & victorian looking university!

DSC_5366Shopping, window shopping & FOOD!

DSC_5375

We stumbled upon Issac toast which was on our list of things to eat. Issac toast is famous for their toast (obviously). It really lived up to it’s name! The toast was hot, crispy but soft on the inside, savoury & buttery. SO GOOD!

DSC_5386

One of the winter comfort food was egg bread. Corn bread with a egg in the middle. Sweet, crispy topping & hot! Must try

DSC_5390

After a long day of shopping & sight seeing we went back to MyeonDong for dinner. We went for some Braised chicken at Bongchu Jjimdak. It is basically braised chicken with potatoes, carrots, zucchini, scallions & Korean sweet potato starch noodles. So simple yet so delicious.

Day 3

That day was a very chill and slow moving day. We started our day with breakfast @ Lotteria which is a local version of McDonalds. We went in 2 minutes after their breakfast menu ended 😦 The good thing was that the lunch menu looks so much better than the breakfast!

IMG_2725

I had the BIG bulgogi burger which I believe is what they’re famous for(?).

IMG_2729

It was not bad but too bad it was cold & the bun was a tad-bit dried out.

IMG_2737

After Lotteria, we went for drinks @  Paris Baguette & I saw “Corn Latte” on the menu and I was quite intrigued! I was expecting it to be a ‘hot sweet corn drink’ but I was very wrong, It is actually corn soup! It was salty (a little too salty) & a little sweet. Not bad to be honest!

DSC_5295

We went Iteawon for some sight seeing & made some personalized luggage tags (which took hours). Coffee break!!

DSC_5302

After a few more hours of shopping around MyeongDong, we went for dinner! We went to Wangbijib which we was suppose to go but we went for the horrible army stew. Korean serves soooo much side dishes &&&& they’re all refillable!

DSC_5303

We ordered so much meat to make up for yesterday horrible dinner! It was sooooo goooooddd! The beef was so juicy & tender and the pork was so tender & chewy (*c*)

DSC_5307

We order two sets of meat and it also it came with rice, 2 bowls of noodles & a soup! The spicy noodle was really spicy & reallyy good! Cold, chewy noodles, spicy & slightly sweet sauce & crisps cucumber..!!

DSC_5314

We ended the dinner with a warming bowl of Doenjjangjijae which has fermented soy bean paste, tofu, zucchini & kelp. A good end to a great dinner doesn’t alway have to be dessert! Our bill came up to around slightly over SGD$300 but it was all worth it!

We did a lot more shopping & walking after a while we decided to head back to the hotel! Chilled in the room for a while & went out to grab some supper! You have to have ramyun & kimchi for supper when you’re in Korea!

IMG_2758

I also found this Cookie O Cheese sand (Cheesecake sandwich) ice-cream which sounded really really good & decided to try on! It was not bad! The cookies tasted like a mix between rich tea & digestive biscuits & the ice-cream itself has a very light cheesecake flavour.

After all those food it was time to wash up & head to bed!

Day 2

It’s our first full day in Seoul and the first thing we did was to grab some breakfast at a bakery/cafe just a throw stone away from our hotel. We went to TOUS les JOUR which is a famous chain bakery in Korea.

DSC_5068

We went ahead and chose a few bread each and also order some drinks! I order a hot Korean citron tea which was really good but a little too sweet for my liking.

IMG_2641

My Croque-Monsieur was really good but it was cold 😦 (& kinda sweet)

IMG_2644

After breakfast, we went and took the metro to Gyeongbokgung 경복궁 (Royal Palace) for a tour! We were JUST in time for the change of guards.

DSC_5189

Samgyetang

After an hour of touring the palace we decided to stop by Tosokchon 토속촌 for lunch! It is a must visit for tourist especially after visiting the palace! Tosokchon has only 4 items on their menu, Ginseng chicken soup, Black chicken ginseng soup, Seafood pancake & roasted chicken. We ordered everything on the menu except for the black chicken ginseng soup.

DSC_5192

After lunch we went to Holly’s cafe for a little break and we sat outside of the cafe on the front porch and everyone must be thinking that we’re crazy to be sitting outdoor on a sub-zero day! We just love the cold too much!

Went and did some touristy things & went MyeongDong for dinner! We were actually looking for a restaurant that had the best Korean bbq in seoul but we couldn’t find it! Instead of bbq, we went to a place that had Budaejjigae. It looked good but tasted really bad 😦

DSC_5232

As an compensate for a horrible dinner, we had shaved ice @ Sulbing! (it quickly became my sis & I’s favourite place to visit after midnight)

DSC_5238

Injeolmi Shave ice. Soy bean flour, Korean rice cake & almonds.

Ordered their best-seller Injeolmi Shave ice. I had this three times while I was there! SOOOO GOODD! (am missing this very much)

DSC_5239

The Injeolmi Honey toast was good as well! Thick toast with rice cake in the middle and topped with soy bean flour, vanilla ice-cream, honey & almonds.

DSC_5235

My absolute favourite has to be the Hot cheese mochi bar!!!!! Chewy & gooey cheese filled mochi on a stick & dressed with melted sliced cheese and parmesan cheese ❤ ❤

DSC_5259

We ended the night with a visit to Two Two chicken place which was probably a 2 minute walk from our hotel! Chicken & beer (Chi-Mek) for supper!

AHHHH! What a satisfying day! We obviously had toooo much food in a day but all’s good!

Be sure to check out part 1 of my Seoul trip & many more parts to come!! ❤

Day 1

Heyyyyyyyy! I’m back from my long-awaited holiday! I was in Seoul for 8 days with my siblings & nephew. We have been planning for this trip for almost a year & counted down from more than a hundred days!

IMG_2563

Yucky plane food. Korean Style fish with rice.

We took a morning flight to Incheon and landed at around 3.15pm local time! The flight was around six and a half hours & it was quite a smooth journey with little turbulence.

Landed into Incheon, went through customs & picked up our luggage. The first thing we did was to pick up the ‘wifi egg’ that my sis had reserve weeks ago online. It was freezing when we stepped out of the airport! So much colder than the weather I’ve experienced in London. The ticket booth fothe airport limousine bus was right outside the door we exited. Bought tickets & off we go!

The bus ride from Incheon to Seoul took us around 90minutes. The bus stopped just a few blocks away from our hotel and all of us was dragging our luggage (1 luggage + 1 cabin bag) in the freezing and super windy weather! It was really really really cold!!! My face felt like it was cracking & I couldn’t feel my fingers at all! (I’ve lived in a tropical country all my life)

Checked in & washed up and off we goo! No time to waste because it was already the evening when we checked in. We lived very close to DongDaeMun area and we walked over there to find us something to eat.

We were all very tired & didn’t know what to eat so we decided to stop by a small eatery that sells your typical Korea food. (The eatery was on Running Man!) We are traveling in a group of 6 which means we have to sit separately when we’re dinning.

IMG_2588

Cheese ramen.

Apparently all of them ordered Korean Ramyun and I was the only one that order a rice dish (this girl gotta have her rice!) & a serving of soondae. Some of them order cheese ramyun, regular ramyun & ramyun with rice cake.

IMG_2613

Spicy Pork Bulgogi rice.

My spicy pork Bulgogi was really very spicy (I’m someone that takes really spicy stuff) but still really good!

IMG_2615

Korean Blood sausage.

As for the soondae, it was not what I was expecting. I expected it to taste meaty and the casing would burst like regular sausage but it tasted quite peppery & kinda chewy. All in all it was acceptable but would not order it again (maybe from another store)!

After dinner we went shopping around DDM. We stumbled upon a shopping mall that has tons of individual clothing stores in every level ( kinda like a wholesales mall. Similar to the one in BKK). Two of my sister got a boots each. Wanted to get a slip on but it was furry on the inside.. 😦

Continued window shopping around DDM & we got some street food! We bought oden & Spicy chicken cups from one of the stores near the place we had our dinner.

IMG_2582

Oden (fishcake).

The oden was sooo good! The pipping hot soup was self-serve and we went for two rounds. (The best oden I’ve had this entire trip)!

IMG_2583

Spicy chicken cup.

Spicy chicken cup is basically fried chicken pieces & rice cake tossed in spicy sauce & some stores include tatter tots as well.

IMG_2572

Beautiful 딸기.

We bought some strawberries for ₩10,000. Seems expensive but it was one of the sweetest strawberries I’ve ever tasted.

IMG_2578

Fries crusted corn-dog.

Brother-in-law bought a fries crusted corn-dog to try, oh boy! It was soo good! (The best one I’ve had this entire trip)!

IMG_2569

Soju and milk!

It was getting late and we were really tired so we decided to head back to our hotel and on our way back, we stopped by GS25 (a convenient store) and grabbed some drinks! We bought banana milk, melon milk, strawberry milk & soju!

We washed up & went to bed!
